KPA the back up of Mombasa residents.
On 13th September, 2022 the President of Kenya H. E William Ruto reverted port operations back to the port of Mombasa. Kenya port Authorities (KPA) is the biggest name in East and Central Africa whose sole purpose is to operate and regulate sea and inland carriage services. The port is a parastatal under the Ministry of transport which is headed by H. E James Macharia. The port of Mombasa is located near fort Jesus at Mombasa Old town and it has served dhows from India , Arabian gulf and the far east. It has a tremendous impact to the residents of Mombasa overtime.
There has been increase in employment opportunities to the coastal people ranging from truck drivers to casual labourers. The skilled and unskilled labour are all affected . The educated and qualified personnel's will get an opportunity to work in the port suit to their certificates. The unskilled will get the opportunities such as cleaning while the elite get managerial and other positions. The many warehouses has ensured that people are employed through hence tackling the poverty levels around and minimize criminal activities. This has brought out an enabling environment for people to live in peacefully.
Due to daily transportation services day in day out, development of infrastructure has become rampant with world class roads and the standard gauge railway.
This has made most of the areas to be accessible for trading and also the supply of materials for businesses has increased.
High standards of living have been witnessed recently with most slums being eradicated to create room for modern buildings. This has improved the streets some of which were fading away.
With more people travelling to the port, there has been an increase in shops along the highway which are boosting small scale bussiness to sell different products and artefacts.
The port has also made it easier to access the wider markets such as importation of wood from DRC which enables the people to build chama's so as to outsource long lasting wood to make artefacts which are a center of tourist attraction to the coastal region.
With the change in places we can clearly refer to the port as the "light at the end of the tunnel" which is continuing to bring light to this beautiful city.
There surely is a light at the end of the tunnel.
